Logline
Faced with the possibility of not being able to return to their home country, Shadi Rabahi and Kareem Fatayre try to communicate that feeling with a film.
Production Information
This film was made during Cinemadamare Extra, a film residency, in a small town named Monticchio Bagni, in the middle of agricultural Basilicata, Italy.
The Israeli war on Lebanon started, our flights back to Lebanon we’re canceled, Cinemadamare Extra coincidentally extended the residency for one more month.
We had no idea how long the war will last or if it was going to end, and if it ended what will it leave behind? Who will it leave behind? Our visas will expire in a few days. Are we now accidentally war refugees? What will we do when the residency ends in one month? Should we seek asylum? Should we do it now?
The questions kept coming, the answers stayed elusive, the uncertainty kept rising, entropy was inevitable.
On the other hand, we are filmmakers, we were expected to produced films during the residency, and the pre-production of our big film was a bit stuck, we realized that we had to get what we were feeling out of the way in order to move on to the big film.
So we answered the big question, what would my mother’s reaction be if I told her that I am applying for asylum, and I will not be able to return home for at least five years?
